The Best Luxury Gift Ideas From Our Contributors

11.20.23

The holiday season is upon us and we are once again tasked with finding the perfect gift for everyone on our lists. While the best gifts are also usually the most thoughtful gifts, for those with expensive taste you may need to dig a little deeper this year. We asked our contributors to send us their wish list and what they are planning to buy for others. And while they all appreciate the finer things in life (aka luxury items), not all of them come with a higher price tag. Take a look at their list of the best luxury gifts that they either want for themselves or are purchasing for their best friend, family members, and significant others this year. From products that even beauty editors would envy to home items hostesses will swoon over, they seem to have everyone on our holiday shopping lists covered!

"The gifts I’m hoping for this year are all things that feel like luxury self care and items that would make this Christmas feel even more special whether going out or hosting. I also love to spoil my closest family and friends and share the things I love with those I love the most."

Vintage Silverplate Footed Punch Bowl: An elegant way to keep the champagne chilled for guests during special occasions. I can't wait to use this when hosting this year. It's definitely one of the most expensive items on my list, but I would love to gift it to someone who is always graciously hosting everyone all year long. Hudson Grace, $1,195

Hermes Rosy Lip Enhancer: I love all things Hermes and this feels like such a luxurious treatment for your lips. Who wouldn't be excited to receive this as a gift?! Sometimes small items like this make the best gifts. Hermes, $75

Chanel Ballet Flats: Chanel flats are perfect for hosting parties. If you can be comfortable while looking this chic, then it's a must. Chanel, $975

Hanacure Discovery Kit: This is a facial survival kit which is definitely needed during the holiday season! Between the weather being colder and drier and indulging at too many parties, everyone's skin needs a little pick-me-up! These products are super cleansing, ultra-hydrating and just feel luxurious. (Calling all beauty lovers!) Hanacure, $68

Estelle Stemless Tinted Glasses: These glasses are such a great gift for the hostess or wine lover. This set happens to be my favorite color....blue! They actually come in a variety of colors, and each one is gorgeous, so there is one for everyone on your gift list! Estelle is also a black, female owned business so I love to support them. Estelle, $170, set of six

Alo's Sherpa Edge Shacket: This just looks like something I want to live in all season long. I love everything about it - from the style to the color. Alo, $218

Red Ceramic Holiday Gnome: This little red gnome just makes me happy looking at it. Hudson Grace, $95

Chanel's Gardeniai Fragrance: This is my favorite floral scent which I would love to receive and share with others! Chanel, $450

La Double J 24/7 Pants: These printed pants from La Double J are just what I want to wear this holiday season, but will also look great with a white tee come spring. La Double J, $590

Winter Scented Candle: This scent is Christmas in a candle. It's an easy way to get anyone into the holiday spirit. Hudson Grace, $68

"My theme for this gifting season is HAPPY SHIT. I’m naturally an optimist and the world has felt darker than normal the last few weeks….so this year, I'm all about gifts that will make my favorite people smile. Playful and meaningful; high and low; this is a truly eclectic mix of things that spark joy and [hopefully] make my favorite people in the world as happy as they make me."

Clockwise from top left:

Decoupage Tray: I first received one of these as a gift 15 years ago an have been collecting them ever since. There is a decoupage piece for every single person on your list from your quirky aunt to your boss. Stuck on what to buy for that person who’s impossible to shop for? Look no further. John Derian, prices vary

Rialto Glass Coupes: I have had my eye on these stunners for over a year — I am secretly hoping someone will buy them for me as they are just too ridiculous and indulgent to buy for myself (which is saying a lot). They are the perfect mix of vintage and modern, unapologetically irreverent, and would make the most mundane evening cocktail a celebration. Sir/ Madam, $75, set of two

Napkins from Madre Linen + Let’s Eat by Dan Pelosi: The perfect one-two punch for the host-or-hostess-with-the-mostest or home chefs in your life!. Bright, happy, and all about love, these two companies share an ethos about making the world a more beautiful place though simple everyday things like meatballs and table linens. Napkins, $48 and Cookbook, $20.98

Roma Heirloom Tomato Candle: You can’t go wrong with anything from Flamingo Estate — but, ever since spending a long weekend visiting friends who always have this candle burning in their kitchen, I have wanted to buy it for everyone I know. Flamingo Estate, $58

Nightcap Hat from Jane Jane: One of my favorite bars on the planet, Jane Jane, just launched merch — and I am particularly obsessed with this hat. This is sure to be a one-for-me & one-for-you gift that I give to everyone in my life, and myself. Jane Jane, $40

Ralph’s Coffee Porecelain Coffee Cup: The look of the chic to-go cup from Ralph’s Coffee in NYC, but good for the planet. I plan to get this for my friend who loves all things Ralph Lauren, is always drinking a skim latte, and first introduced me to Ralph’s (the restaurant) in Paris over ten years ago. Ralph Lauren, $45

The Ones Vault: A dear friend of mine launched an incredible jewelry brand earlier this year and I couldn’t be more aligned with the sentiment behind her designs. It is all about the beauty of the patina of life…and the joys and setbacks that make it all worthwhile. I wear the You Vault daily, but I think the Ones would make the perfect gift for a special person in your life. A luxury item / investment piece that will truly be treasured. The Ben Shoppe, $3,800

Apple Ume Ginger Delights: Feel good cannabis. Ingredient driven, made in partnership with chefs & farmers with regenerative farming practices…and, unlike the gallons of wine I plan to drink this holiday season, I never regret having these the next morning. Rose Los Angeles, $40

Checkered Catchall Disk: I have a friend who is obsessed with all things checkered from Vans to Moroccan rugs. I have my eye on this for her...and love that it’s handmade, truly unique, and buying it supports an independent seller on Etsy. Viridiliving, $110.39

"All of these holiday gifts are things I personally love. I look forward to giving them to family & friends this year....and would be happy to receive any of them as well!"

Clockwise from top left:

Dermalogica Moisturizer and Eye Cream: I'm a skincare enthusiast and Dermalogica is my go-to for skincare. Their Active Moist Moisturizer is light, oil free, and perfect for everyday use. Eye cream is also so important. Your eyes don’t have oil glands so you need to hydrate to avoid wrinkles. (I should probably fact check that!). But either way I use their Age Reversal Eye Complex religiously! Dermalogica Moisturizer, $74, Dermalogica Eye Cream, $79

Vacu Vin Wine Premium Set: This four-piece set preserves opened bottles and keeps wine fresh for the next day - especially whites and rosè! Williams Sonoma, $70

ABC Slim Trouser: The all-purpose, wear-anywhere pant. Acceptable in the boardroom and perfect for brunch. The best part is these have stretch and never wrinkle. Lululemon, $128

Weekend Short: The perfect short. I’ve never worn drawstring shorts until now. Perfect length, soft fabric, a great range of different colors, and flattering on everyone! Todd Snyder, $118

Tod's Suede Driving Shoes: Tod's are my three-season shoe and with the leather bottom they are perfect for New York City to the Hamptons and beyond! These loafers have lasted over five years and continue to be the best investment in footwear. Tod's, $695

Byredo Discovery Set: Byredo colognes are my favorite. This set is great for travel and has two of my everyday go-to scents. Rose of No Man’s Land is a great masculine/ feminine scent for spring and summer and Bibliotheque is a bit heavier for fall and winter. I think this set would be a popular gift for a lot of people on my list! Byredo, $53

Nike Men's Track and Field Shoes: My favorite Nike shoe. It works with shorts, twill, and denim. And perfect for travel! Nike, $84

Moncler's Acorus Short Down Jacket: Moncler is definitely on the top of my wish list of luxury Christmas gifts. This puffer easily packs into a work bag and can be used for fall, winter and spring. Olive is a great neutral that pairs great with all colors. Moncler, $1,305

"Our theme is, as always, to shop as small-batch/ local as we can, as we like to support those who move away from mass production."

Clockwise from top left:

Bespoke Gift Boxes: Custom curated gift boxes with themes ranging from home decor, self-care, entertaining + food (we love anything that includes a Mast chocolate bar). Each box comes with a beautiful letterpress notecard from owner Brit Cohen. This box is a good idea for a hostess gift or when you just aren't sure what to get someone. Plus it's a fun way to try new things! New York & Narrative, prices vary

Walnut wooden tray from Rikumo: A 2017 Good Design Award winner, this simple rectangular tray is manufactured by artisans in Kagawa Prefecture. We love gifts that are a timeless, elegant design that the recipient can use for many years. Rikumo, $50

Ceramic Egg Tray: This elegant handmade ceramic egg tray is a sophisticated way to store your eggs and elevate your kitchenware. Crafted with high-quality materials and style in mind, this is a fun display piece that is also functional. This gift not only supports local artistry, but a percentage of proceeds go to those in need. Adi Nissan, $350

Rain Cloud Perfume: This perfume is described as "a humid rain cloud of sultry white florals". However you describe it, it's a gorgeous scent in a gorgeous bottle. Perfumer H, $150

H. Okudżawa Bud Vase: Taking forms designed to highlight the colors and texture of the patina copper's surface, these bud vases are equally at home as a dining centerpiece, or on an accent table. Use just one as a minimalist feature, or mix and match colors and sizes to create an eye-catching display. Rikumo, $96

Splatter Paint Menorah/ Candelabra: We love this unique Menorah. Since each one is handmade, no two patterns or shapes are exactly alike. You can use it for the holidays and also display it year round as an art piece. Julia Elsas, $250

Whether you choose the most expensive gifts this holiday season or budget-friendly gifts, the best way to show that you care is by getting everyone something thoughtful that they will love. At the end of the day, spending time with and for your family & friends is all anyone really needs!
