What is better than fall fashion in New York City? And what better display of fall fashion than watching the street style during New York Fashion Week.
Ask any New Yorker or fashion editor and they will tell you that fall is their favorite season to get dressed. The layering, the shoes, the outerwear…..there is just so much to play with! The weather forecast this season was a little dicey, with heavy downpours one minute to sauna-like humidity the next. But everyone turned out to show off the best trends of the new season.
If you plan to visit NYC this fall, it is the best time of year to enjoy the city and get in on all the fall fashion. Follow the NYFW trends below for the best of fall style to help guide your packing and styling decisions! And perhaps a bit of shopping too!

Red happens to be the color of the season so wherever you can, add a little pop of color. If you’re more of a neutral girl, try adding a red accessory to your look, like a bag or a shoe. Arielle Charnas showed off her red chanel ballet flats on IG, which as it turns out is also one of the hottest shoe trends this fall season. If you’re someone who likes bright colors, add more red to your look by pairing a bright blazer with a black dress and high heels like Claire Rose did.

Power suiting was everywhere this NYFW, with the biggest trends being an oversized blazer, wide pleated trousers, and vests.
Olympia Gayot, head of women’s design for J. Crew styled her three-piece suit with ankle boots from their new collection, and explained how versatile these pieces are as you can wear them together or break them apart. Aimee Song and Sai Da Silva were also seen looking sleek in head to toe suiting.
If you are planning to take a trip to the city this fall, add suiting pieces to your New York packing list. It’s a great way to get multiple outfits out of one look.

Charlotte Groeneveld wore a pair of low rise baggy jeans to attend a Dior Beauty event during fashion week which she paired with a strapless House of Dagmar top and Balenciaga sneakers. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Loewe’s squeeze bag, the “It Bag” of the season, which she was seen carrying as well.
If you want to pull off her effortless look, style baggy or wide leg jeans and a good pair of sneakers back to feminine tops. Comfortable walking shoes are also key in NYC….look no further than our picks below to get you around town.

A pair of knee-high boots (or even thigh-high boots) are a must-have this fall. Pair back to mini skirts, tees and a black leather jacket to mimic an elevated NYC street style look. Arielle Charnas and Charlotte Groeneveld both sported a pair of Khaite boots to Catherine Holstein’s SP24 show on September 10.

One stylish look a lot of NYFW goers wore was a white skirt. Unusual for fall, it felt really fresh when paired back to light sweaters like Tezza Barton and Roopal Patel did here. This new look has lasting power as we get into some cooler weather when you can layer pieces like a trench coat over it.

A long coat is a must-have this season. It’s a great transitional weight as the weather starts to cool and before we take the heavy coats out for the winter season. Jenna Lyons wore a plaid Balenciaga coat for her NY Mag feature which came out during NYFW. And Charlotte Groeneveld took to Instagram wearing an Etro plaid coat which she paired with baggy jeans and sneakers. Long line coats can be practical or a statement piece, depending which one you choose and how you style it.

A trench coat is a closet staple in a lot of women’s wardrobes. From classic like Claire Rose’s trench to eccentric like the one Sai da Silva wore, the trench coat was seen out in droves during fashion week. September can still be extremely hot, but when the weather starts to cool in early October, a trench is the perfect piece when you all you need is a light jacket. And it’s a great piece to have on hand when you’re in a rush. Just throw a trench over almost any look to add instant style.

Mari Guideicelli posted images to her IG where she was sporting three different shoe trends. In one slide she wears Mary Jane ballet flats and in another she is wearing a pair of kitten heels. She also pairs her slingbacks with socks which is one of the biggest styling trends of the season. If you’re looking for an easy fall update, try pairing socks back to loafers or heels. This fashion week, attendees and New Yorkers alike flocked to Chanel’s pop up Lucky Chance Diner in Brooklyn. Leandra Medine Cohen snapped these photos and there is clearly a theme here. Obviously everyone is in Chanel but there also seemed to be a lot of sequins and shine. I love how these luxe pieces can slip into casual outfits just as easily as into evening wear without missing a beat.

Speaking of shine, metallic silver is a big trend this season. From denim to shoes to outerwear, you can find hits of silver everywhere you look.
Arielle Charnas wore Staud’s silver jeans to their show on September 10th while Sai De Silva wore a silver dress by Dolce & Gabbana. If you want to add a hint of shine to your nyc fall outfits, add some silver to your clothing, shoes or accessories!
