The most current FASHION EDIT so you always get it right.

Does this time of year have you yearning for those hot summer months? If so, you’re not alone. The winter, especially January and February when temperatures can be below zero, is the best time to get out of dodge! Whether heading to the sunshine state or any state with sunshine, I’ve put together some inspiration for vacationing in style.

While Florida summers can be unbearable, in the winter months you will need to be prepared for beach days as well as some rainy days because you never know what to expect. I just returned from a Florida trip myself and experienced a wild range of weather. And my dad, who is currently wintering in Florida, loves to call with weather updates so I know it fluctuates daily! (Who doesn’t love that?!)

When packing for Florida, my M-O is to pack pieces that work overtime. One piece bathing suits that double as bodysuits, sets that you can wear together or split up to wear multiple ways, day to night dresses…..you get the picture. When pieces work double duty it also increases your chances of fitting everything into a carry-on and minimizing your time spent at the airport! Below are tips for what I consider to be the perfect Florida packing list and the best ways to get the most out of the pieces you pack! Whether you can take a week off or are planning a quick weekend trip, here are some tips to travel well and in style.

SARONG & WHITE BUTTON DOWN:

A sarong is a perfect thing to pack as it works as a skirt, a beach cover-up, or can be a shoulder wrap. I love it styled with a white button down for a casual yet elegant look. It’s one of the best things to pack as you can style it a million different ways and dress it up or down.

MATCHING SETS:

Matching sets are like three outfits in one. You can wear the top & bottom together or pair them with other pieces separately. I love to pack sets to get the most out of my wardrobe when traveling.

DESTINATION DRESSES:

I always pack a maxi dress and a crochet dress. They are perfect for daytime with sneakers, for evening with sandals, or even as a beach cover up. I brought a beautiful floral printed Ulla Johnson maxi dress on my recent trip to Florida, which admittedly took up too much room in my suitcase, but I felt was worth it anyway. And I packed a short white crochet dress with long sleeves that can easily be dressed up or down.

SWIMSUITS:

If you’re lucky enough to catch some hot Florida sun, you’ll need a few swimsuits. One-piece suits are my current faves and are great options for a beach trip or paired with jeans as a bodysuit. Rashguards are a great option too because they’ll shield you from the sun in hot weather (like in south Florida and the Florida keys) or can be a great long sleeve bodysuit on a chilly evening.

SHOES:

A versatile pair of sandals is a must-have item. Espadrilles are super stylish, easy to pack, and happen to be really comfortable shoes. I also love to pack strappy sandals that are a bit dressier to pair with denim or dresses for nights out. The great news is that neither take up much room is your suitcase! And it’s always a great idea to wear sneakers on the plane for comfort and to spare the room in your bag. A pair of white sneakers works back to every look no matter what your plans are.

ACCESSORIES:

Raffia and straw bags have been a favorite of the fashion set ever since the 1970’s when Jane Birkin was seeing carrying her own straw basket everywhere. The bag has been reinterpreted by many designers and brands over the years, loved for it’s style and versatility. Great for the beach or an afternoon on the town, it’s the perfect bag to bring with you on vacation.

OTHER STAPLES YOU’LL NEED:

You’ll want to pack a pair of jeans and a pair of shorts. I’m partial to denim cut-off shorts personally and Levi’s are my go-to brand for both.

It’s a good idea to pack tank tops to wear alone or for layering as the weather can be unpredictable this time of year. A sweater or sweatshirt is also an absolute must to throw on over your tank or tie around your shoulders. If you’re in need of new t-shirts, this white tee from Uniqlo is what I consider the perfect white tee. In terms of outerwear, a denim jacket is always a good choice to bring with you, but I’d also suggest something more versatile like a blazer. It goes back to almost everything and instantly dresses up any look

The Florida heat can catch you off guard (as they say, the sun is different in the south!) so be sure to pack daily sun protection and higher SPF for the beach. And don’t forget to throw some essential items into your beach bag like a good book, lip balm, and a refillable water bottle. Other beach gear I always love to pack are Havaiana flip flops and baseball caps which I use as sun hats.

One great thing about Florida is that it is almost sure to be warmer than wherever you live this time of year! Follow this packing list and you’ll be sure to have everything you need for a stylish vacation.
