I love watching every runway show as it comes out in real time and dissecting the common trends among them. And this fall there were some very clear themes emerging. While it’s nice to wait closer to the season to suss out exactly which of the latest trends speak to you, there is no denying these 7 are going to be the most prevalent. The good news – there is literally something for everyone this fall season no matter what your personal style is. From sophisticated elegance to the return of boho to sporty prep, now is the perfect time to start putting your summer clothes away (I know, it always goes by way too quickly!) and make room for the latest fall fashion trends you are definitely going to want to participate in!
OUT WEST
If you don’t pay close attention to the runway, then you have at least heard Beyonce’s latest hit This Ain’t Texas or seen Bella Hadid’s photos with her cowboy boyfriend or Rihanna’s latest cover for Vogue China this spring. And if you do follow fashion week closely, you would have seen a lot of western influence both on the runway and on the streets. Chloe, Isabel Marant and Ralph Lauren are all great shows to rewatch to see the western aesthetic and how you can infuse it into your fall outfit ideas. Think denim on denim, plaid shirts, cozy cardigans, a pair of cowboy boots, some fringe details and large belt buckles.

This season leopard prints are back in a big way. (Scratches head and asks, “Did they ever really leave?!”). If you are an animal (print) lover or a Mob Wife, this fall is your moment! From feminine blouses to printed denim to furry coats (cozy vibes only), there are plenty of new styles to choose from this fall fashion cycle. Already own a ton of animal print? HIGH SOCIETY (AKA LADIES WHO LUNCH)
If you watched Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, you know exactly what this look is. Thank Babe Paley and C.Z. Guest’s fashion taken straight from the 50’s and 60’s for a new era of sophisticated style. You can also think of Jackie O and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy as two different generation’s take on this theme. If you are a quiet luxury fan, this could also be considered an extension as classic, timeless pieces are at the forefront of this trend with all the elements of a perfect fall capsule wardrobe. Beautiful tailoring, smart suits with midi skirts, loafers, a perfect trench coat and pearls are the pieces to invest in and wear on repeat. This trend is definitely defined by Chemena Kamali’s debut collection for Chloe this fall with her diaphanous dresses, oversized bags and clog sandals all in beautiful earthy tones, putting the French fashion house back on the map in a big way. Also look to Zimmermann, Etro and Isabel Marant for Bohemian silhouettes and detailing like fringe, studs, suede, cozy sweaters and faux fur. Influences from other fall fashion trends like animal print, lace and western details all seem to converge here. It’s a 70’s inspired trend where we can all pretend to be the star in Almost Famous all season long. The best part, this effortless look works on every body type.

SPORTY CHIC
This trend is probably best described as Prep School meets Athleisure. Key sporty pieces like track suits, polos and sweats go back to blazers, denim, and pleated skirts for an ultimate high/low styling trick. From oversized ties to delicate little details, every iteration of the bow is on full display in this modern, romantic trend. With so many collections featuring the bow, there is no denying this detail deserves its own category. Whether on garments or as part of your accessories (don’t forget about belts, bags, hair ties and shoes – they are a great way to participate in this trend too), bonus points to anyone who ties a bow into their next look.
AFTER MIDNIGHT
After midnight is a sexy evening-inspired trend that incorporates open lace, sheer layers, sleek leather, slinky satin and ultra-soft faux furs in a moody, jewel-toned color palette. It’s sensual, tactile and shows off the body through silhouette or transparent fabrics. The best ways to wear this trend this fall or holiday season is to incorporate satin slip dresses, a leather blazer or dare to wear a sheer lace skirt with luxurious oversized sweaters. Add a bit of fringe or faux fur to play up the different textures that make up this trend.
