I have a confession to make – I am a product junkie! My addiction actually runs in the family. My aunt was the East Coast Marketing Director at Estée Lauder for twenty years starting in the late 60s. When I was growing up, my family would often visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins who lived in Northern New Jersey. I spent most of these visits crouched under the sink in their powder room shuffling through giant plastic containers filled with lipsticks, powders, mascara, perfumes, and creams. I would organize the products into categories, sample the products on myself and whoever would let me give them a makeover, and when our visits were over, I would beg my aunt to let me keep said products only to be told “no, you’re too young” by my mom. Those visits were my “kid in a candy store” moments and I savored those visits which remain a core memory for me to this day!

As you can see, my addiction is real. It’s literally in my blood! What does one do when they have an addiction? They can get help (not sure there’s a rehab for my addiction). They can go cold turkey and break their addiction or, like me, they can use their knowledge to help educate other product junkies which is exactly what I did back in 2010 when I created the blog: BeBlushing, a product junkie’s daily dose of beauty. I spent 5 years sharing my knowledge of make-up and skin care to my followers. It was an incredible ride that included backstage access to NYC Fashion Week and one on one time with CEOs of cosmetic companies. I met and interviewed designers and the most exciting part of it was organizing fundraisers and being able to donate money to important charities.

Flash forward to today and I’m still a hopeless product junkie! My style and my skincare have definitely changed through the years but one thing is still the same: my bathroom cabinets are still overflowing with products and now that I am writing again for Vetted, I can continue to indulge my addiction all for the sake of research (of course)! I am thrilled to sharing my addiction with old and new followers of BeBlushing and hope that we can together create a new community of product junkies at Vetted.

One of the things that has changed the most for me as I age, is my commitment towards clean beauty. You may ask why is this important? Well, to answer this, I can look no further than the ingredients listed on skincare and makeup packaging. For many years, the cosmetic industry has used harmful chemicals in their products that can be irritating and, in some cases, are carcinogenic or endocrine disruptors. Clean and natural beauty is the industry’s movement towards skincare and cosmetic products mindfully made that don’t contain toxic ingredients linked to harmful health issues. I am excited and amazed by the amount of clean products on the market today.

Let’s start with a deep dive into all things clean and bronzed. Bronzer is a product used to give your skin a natural-looking glow without all the sun exposure. Bronzers are great for everyone, no matter your age or skin tone, BUT you need to select the right one for your skin, and you also need to understand how to apply it to avoid looking orange and cakey a la Oompa- Loompa!

Here are the clean and natural bronzers that I have been loving lately:

Rms Beauty Buriti Bronzer

RMS BeautyBuriti Bronzer ($29)

This award winning, hydrating cream bronzer contains wild crafted Buriti oil which is the highest oil in Vitamin A and Beta-carotene. It is pressed from the nuts of Brazil’s moriche palm tree. This natural and ultra-sheer bronzer gives you glowing and healthy skin. I like to apply it with my finger and I put the excess product on my lips for a natural and nourishing look.

Jane IredaleSo-Bronze Bronzing Powder in Golden Brown ($42)

This is one of my favorite go-to bronzers that I use all year round. What I love about this clean beauty product is the perfectly natural looking shade which has a subtle shimmer. This illuminating color gives you a warm radiant look that lasts all day. Skin-loving ingredients like pine bark extract calms and soothes while pomegranate extract provides natural antioxidant protection. Use a fluffy brush and dust it over your cheeks and the bridge of your nose for a radiant glow.

Rms Beauty Redimension Hydra Powder Blush

RMS BeautyReDimension Hydra Powder Blush in Crystal Slipper ($35)

I know, I know, this is supposed to be a review of clean bronzers. But, hear me out – this color gives you a sheer sun-kissed glow and a little bit goes a long way. Plus, its consistency is buildable so you can start with a light layer and if you want a deeper healthy glow, just apply more product. I am obsessed with this blush and use it daily. What makes it special is the sugar-derived wet powder technology that combines a creamy texture with a long lasting 3D finish. Natural ingredients like wildcrafted buriti and jojoba oils nourish your skin and gives it a smooth finish.

MeritBronze Balm in Quince ($30)

This is super easy to apply and a fan favorite with my two teenage daughters! You just swipe the stick over your skin and blend it with a bronzer brush or your fingers to create natural warmth and soft definition. The satin finish feels extremely lightweight, almost as if you are not wearing any product at all. Merit products are formulated to be safe for acne-prone skin so they are great for sensitive skin like mine.

No matter what your personal preference is, there is a great option for you (and all skin types) to incorporate into your makeup routine. Cream bronzers, powder bronzers, liquid bronzers, and bronzer sticks are all great choices to get a healthy-looking glow. Make sure to choose one with clean ingredients and avoid harsh chemicals that could be damaging to your skin. Some mineral bronzers may have the added benefit of mineral sunscreen which includes ingredients like titanium dioxide and iron oxides that protect your skin from harmful UV rays (perfect for those summer months)!

I’m happy to be here to help you find the best bronzers to add to your clean makeup collection! More to come!
